The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently released its annual rankings of cities with the highest number of dog attacks on postal workers. The rankings, which are based on the number of reported dog attacks on postal workers in 2020, show that Houston, Texas, is the city with the highest number of dog attacks on postal workers.
The USPS reported that Houston had the highest number of dog attacks on postal workers in 2020, with a total of 77 reported incidents. This is the second year in a row that Houston has topped the list, with the city having the highest number of reported dog attacks in 2019 as well.
The other cities that made the top 10 list of cities with the highest number of dog attacks on postal workers in 2020 include Los Angeles, California (63 reported incidents); San Diego, California (60 reported incidents); Cleveland, Ohio (59 reported incidents); and Chicago, Illinois (58 reported incidents).
The USPS also released a list of the top 10 breeds of dogs that were involved in the reported dog attacks on postal workers in 2020. The breeds that made the list include Pit Bulls (25 reported incidents); German Shepherds (17 reported incidents); Chihuahuas (14 reported incidents); and Labrador Retrievers (13 reported incidents).
The USPS has been releasing these rankings since the year 2000, and the number of reported dog attacks on postal workers has been steadily increasing over the years. The USPS has taken steps to reduce the number of dog attacks on postal workers, including providing safety tips for postal workers and offering free dog bite prevention classes.
The USPS also encourages pet owners to keep their pets restrained when postal workers are delivering mail, and to make sure that their pets are properly trained and socialized. The USPS also encourages pet owners to be aware of their pet’s behavior and to take steps to prevent their pet from becoming aggressive.
The USPS is committed to providing a safe working environment for its employees, and these rankings are a reminder of the importance of taking steps to prevent dog attacks on postal workers.
