US Postal Service releases national dog bite rankings – The Albany Herald

Kashaf Saif · June 4, 2023 ·

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently released its annual rankings of the cities with the highest number of dog bite incidents. The rankings, which are based on the number of dog bite-related insurance claims filed with USPS, show that Albany, Georgia is the city with the highest number of dog bite incidents in the nation.

The USPS report shows that Albany had a total of 1,867 dog bite-related insurance claims filed in 2020, which is an increase of 8.3% from the previous year. This puts Albany at the top of the list of cities with the highest number of dog bite incidents. Other cities in the top five include Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; San Diego, California; and Chicago, Illinois.

The USPS report also provides insight into the types of dogs that are most likely to bite. According to the report, pit bulls and rottweilers are the two breeds most likely to bite, accounting for nearly 60% of all dog bite-related insurance claims. Other breeds that are more likely to bite include German shepherds, Labrador retrievers, and Chihuahuas.

The USPS report also provides tips for avoiding dog bites. These include avoiding unfamiliar dogs, not running away from a dog, and not teasing or playing roughly with a dog. The report also recommends that people always ask the owner for permission before petting a dog.

The USPS report is an important reminder that dog bites can be a serious problem. It is important for people to be aware of the risks associated with dogs and to take the necessary precautions to avoid being bitten.
