A Guide Dog Foundation employee in Smithtown was arrested after a dog was discovered dead in one of their commercial trucks.
Jodi Meyers, 51, of Lake Grove, was arrested by detectives from the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Meyers was caring for Milton, a 3-year-old black Labrador puppy who died after spending over five hours locked in a vehicle.
Meyers brought the dog out for training in July, but reportedly left him inside a crate in a work truck when it was 90 degrees outside.
Meyers has been accused of failing to provide adequate shelter and ventilation.
was Michelle Krupa’s guiding dog and greatest buddy. She runs Shelby’s Kitchen in Bellport, although she hasn’t been out much since her loss.
Her spouse, Tom Krupa, has been running the company.

“One of the artists that came in and painted our mural also painted Milton’s portrait in the rear, which shows how much he was loved,” recalls Tom Krupa.
Milton, according to Tom and Michelle Krupa, is now their guardian angel. They intend to obtain another guide dog in the future.
According to Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross, they deal with a lot of incidents with animals stuck in automobiles, but this one is unique.
“There has to be some protocol – some method to ensure that when a person is carrying an animal in a circumstance like this – that it is properly scrutinized – that they go through the vehicle.

“The Suffolk County SPCA alerted us of their inquiry, and we are engaging with them.” The Guide Dog Foundation told News 12 that. Our major goal is the health, safety, and well-being of the dogs in our care, as well as the people we serve.”
Meyers’ employment status in the corporation is unknown.
According to the SPCA, Meyers has not revealed what she was doing while the five hours the dog was confined in the van.
Meyers is scheduled to appear in court again next month.
